BRRRRRRR!

10 fresh inches and only zero degrees in Gold Basin this morning, 4 degrees at the trailhead, and only -5 on Pre-Laurel peak at 11,700′.  Combine that with the 25 mph sustained and 35 mph gusts and you have a wind chill of -30 to -35 degrees on the ridge-tops.  Exposed skin could begin to have frostbite in 10 minutes, so COVER UP!

Forecasts for 10,000 feet will continue to be cold, snowy, and windy.  Yes, I said SNOW!!  It is actually easier to say which days it won’t be snowing out of the next 7 days, which is Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.

We have made it to 61% of average SWE so far – Yahoo!

Backcountry

Serious avalanche danger exists, so we recommend you read the La Sal Avalanche Advisory.

Road

Grand County did another spectacular job clearing the Geyser Pass Road on Tuesday.  The surface is snow-packed and slippery, so good tires are an absolute must, and 4WD or AWD are preferable.  The loop road is clear, but the potholes are continuing to multiply.

Grooming

Marshall rolled, groomed, and set classic track into Goldbasin as well as the loops in the Beginner Meadow, Lower & Upper Horse Creek Meadows, and the Tot Trail yesterday afternoon.  Matt will be working on Geyser Pass today.  Expect a smooth and soft surface.
