Project Description

Emma comes to Moab Gear Trader from Aurora Illinois. She first arrived in Moab after landing an internship at Canyonlands Field Institute, a nonprofit outdoor education center. There she worked as a raft guide and was able to explore the desert of the southwest in ways that few people ever get to see. She enjoyed sharing these unique river and desert experiences with her students so much that she decided to stay in Moab full time.

She has worked with Moab Gear Trader for a full year and in her spare time enjoys rafting, rockhounding, nature journaling, climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, painting, and cross country skiing. Although she loves all outdoor activities, her favorite is definitely rockhounding. Emma has been hunting for cool rocks in nature since she was young, even before she knew it had a fancy name! She feels it connects her to the land and teaches her about the geology and human history of an area, in a place like Moab that is especially true.

Her favorite piece of adventure gear is her sunglasses and chums. Keeping the sun out of Emma’s eyes through any adventure, no matter how physical, is crucial to Emma enjoying her time in the wild.

When she’s not rockhounding or working at Moab Gear Trader, Emma is making pottery in town. Her beautiful cups, mugs, and vases are all inspired by her time living and working in the beautiful Utah desert.
