We’ve been experiencing beautiful fall weather here in Moab lately! I hope everyone has been getting out and enjoying it because it’s about to change! We are finally seeing some significant precipitation tonight, how about that smell of rain!  Forecast totals look like .25″ to .5″ over the next 2 days.

The highs will shift from the 60’s to the mid 50’s, and the lows will shift from the 30’s to the 20’s. You #vanlifers get those propane heaters ready! In the extended forecast moving into the Thanksgiving holiday, it looks like we are moving into even colder temps. We will see highs in the 40’s and lows in the 20’s, occasionally dipping into the teens. BRRR. Here’s an extended forecast into the end of the month.

Have we been experiencing normal precipitation for this year? It seems as if its been a bit dry huh? The average historical precipitation for October is 1.17 inches. October of 2018 saw around 3.0 inches of precipitation, more than twice the historical average.  We saw an average between 0.01 and 0.10 inches of precipitation for the Moab and greater Canyonlands National Park region this October. November’s historical average is 0.76 inches. In November of 2018, we saw anywhere between 0.10 to 0.25 inches of precipitation based on specific regions of the area. So far this November, we’re at 0.7 inches of precipitation. October was significantly drier than last year. November may get closer to the historical averages if the rain and snow keep up. We shall see soon enough!

Skiing/Snowboarding.

A significant winter storm is headed to resorts and upper mountains in Colorado and Utah! Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are expected to unload significant snowfall onto the Rocky’s as well as the Wasatch and the Markagunt Plateau! The 5-day forecast is reporting up to 24” of new snow over the next couple of days. While we aren’t seeing any significant snowfall in Moab, there’s powder just a short drive away! Winter is here! Many Ski Resorts are open and many more will be opening soon! With this gift from mother nature, it will be no time before skis hit the snow everywhere! Stay tuned for opening dates and get stoked!

 

 

Slacklining/Highlining

The 12th annual GGBY Slacklining festival will return to Moab November 24th-28th at the Fruit Bowl. The event will include 5 days of Pre-rigged highlines, workshops, community fires and gatherings, and other fun activities. There will be 15 + highlines for all abilities, including a top-rope highline.  Workshops will include highlining, yoga, and acroyoga. Parking is very limited for this event, so shuttling in will be necessary. There will be camping at the event, but please note that the Fruit Bowl is a NO WOOD GATHERING AREA. Climbing

Creeksgiving is upon us! The annual gathering of the climber dirtbags will take place on November 28th. The Access Fund will be having a community potluck dinner at the Creek Pasture campground. Turkey and Beer provided! Please bring your own sides to share! Also, check out the article from Rock and Ice Magazine 8 Tips to Minimize Your Impact at Creeksgiving. Indian Creek is a fragile ecosystem, let’s do our best to practice great leave no trace ethics!

All trails except for Hazzard and Burro pass remain open for the time being. Keep checking the Poison Spider Conditions page for up to date trail information.  

Other Upcoming Events.

The Turkey Trot. The Thanksgiving race will include a 1k, 5k, 10k, and a 13.1m race! The race is a remote race and can be ran wherever you like! Whether that be in the gym, at the park, along a trail, or anywhere at all! The entrance fee is 35$ and it includes a medal or a T-Shirt. Please refer to the Turkey Trot event page on Active for more information! November 21-25th.

David Archuletta, the 2007 American Idol winner will be performing at the Historic Star Hall on November 26th. 

Stonefed, a Utah born Funk, Rock, Blues, and Jam band will be performing at Woody’s Tavern November 29th & 30th.

Open Mic at Woody’s Tavern will be switching to winter hours and will start at 8 PM Every Wednesday. 

Meander Cat will be playing at The Blu Pig between 6:30 and 9 PM every Tuesday Night.
