Sam has been working and living in Moab since the fall of 2017, but recently joined the Moab Gear Trader team in late 2020. She comes to us from Chapel Hill North Carolina, and enjoys mountain biking, rock climbing, canyoneering, and hiking, all with her dog of course!
Her sport of choice is definitely mountain biking. She loves the thrill of going fast and challenging herself to try new things that might be scary. It’s also a great outdoor activity to do with her dog, who enjoys going fast even more than Sam!
Over the last three years, Sam has been working in wilderness therapy and has spent most of that time in the field–sleeping on the ground and living out of a backpack. She says she is most proud of this time in her life since she was able to work competently in high-stress environments while managing various mental health and behavioral issues that her students were dealing with.
When she is out adventuring, her favorite piece of gear is actually her bag of snacks. No one likes to be hungry while mountain biking, and recreating on an empty stomach can lead to some serious hanger.
If Sam isn’t out on the mountain bike trails or hanging out behind the counter at Moab Gear Trader, then you can find her teaching Yoga at the high school and even instructing mindfulness to first graders at the elementary school.
