La Sal Mountain Snow Report 1-2-18

The entire Moab Valley received a couple of inches of snow on New Years Eve and folks were out and about in force enjoying themselves in it from the mountains to the valley and river. Loop Road

Geyser Pass Road

The La Sal Mountains have received 10″ of snow since the storm on Christmas Eve and Grand County has done such a wonderful job keeping access open to the Geyser Pass Winter Trailhead. The 6″ that fell on New Years Eve stuck hard to the Loop Road and as of Tuesday Evening was mostly sanded snowpacked the entire way. Grand County Roads will be plowing the Geyser Pass Road today, so the gate will be closed while they work on clearing it. Tuesday was rutted, but it was easily passable with 4wd.

Weather

High pressure is building and we should see cold, clear, sunny days through the weekend. Highs in the mountains are forecast in the 20s, and Moab should see gradual warming as a storm approaches this weekend. Highs are 40 on Sunday! Some valleys may see inversions the next few days according to NOAA

Snowpack

The weather station near the Geyser Pass Trailhead has reported data that says there is 74% of average SWE (snow water equivalent) for this year. Here is a graph showing how those inches stacked up.
