The Gold Basin Yurt

Stop by and get a first look at the new yurt in Gold Basin.  Talking Mountain Yurts will be serving up a few snacks, hot and cold drinks at the yurt.  It is located about 1.5 miles from the Geyser Pass winter trailhead on the Gold Basin Road.  You can cross-country, snowshoe, skin/tour, or snowmobile in.  1pm gives you time for a lap in the North Woods to enjoy the new snow forecast Friday night.  If you need directions, stop by Moab Gear Trader and we will be happy to show you how to get there.

Moab Cliffs & Canyons Avalanche Beacon Olympics

Also Moab Cliffs & Canyons is hosting a FREE avalanche beacon workshop/clinic/practice/competition 12346567_960233474014682_600734384357198702_nat the yurt also. Prizes for fastest rescue! They will be going over efficient beacon search, proper probing techniques and strategic shoveling practices. Whether you are just getting started or are a backcountry veteran this is a great way to help refresh your skills! Hope to see you there!!!  Plus Moab Gear Trader has donated some sweet prizes.

Free Avalanche Awareness Program

12341283_10153809779172628_6525472306831194070_nThe US Forest Service Utah Avalanche Center-Moab will present a free avalanche awareness program on Thursday, December 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand County Library. The one hour “Know Before You Go” program includes an exciting video and slide show presentation designed to educate winter recreationists about the dangers of avalanches, and what they can do to avoid them while still having fun in the backcountry. The program is geared toward all winter backcountry users from snowmobilers and skiers to hikers and snowshoers.
