The weather in Moab can change in an instant, and these changes will impact your camping, hiking, climbing, skiing, or biking trip. Being prepared for Moab’s weather changes increases your chance of a successful trip. So, stack the odds in your favor and bookmark Moab Gear Trader’s local weather conditions page for quick access before you hit the hiking trails, bike paths, or ski runs.

Although Moab winters are usually mild with little lower elevation snow accumulation the weather conditions in the nearby La Sal Mountains can be very different. This difference is particularly dangerous in winter when the temperatures are freezing and avalanche conditions exist. However, on the rare occasion it does snow in Moab the way the landscape is at lower elevations is truly beautiful. There is also a big difference in summer temperatures.

In summertime, the La Sal’s provide much needed relief from the summer heat with temperatures 10 – 20 degrees cooler than Moab. If it happens to be raining during your visit be sure to head down river road to see the temporary waterfalls.

Planning a trip to the La Sals to cross-country or backcountry ski? Be sure to visit Moab Gear Trader’s snow conditions page for current snow conditions, temperatures, and avalanche dangers.
