Meet the owners:
We love being outside … and we love great adventures
As a local Moab family, we’re passionate about being outside and exploring as much as possible. There are so many opportunities to enjoy adventures of all types in this beautiful land of ours. And we take advantage of them … and we’re here to help you do the same.
Before opening Moab Gear Trader, both of us worked as river guides for about 10 years. That helped solidify our passion for the beauty of this area, the joy of being outdoors and, of course, how the right gear really helps make each experience better.
But our tradition of outdoor adventure started long before that …
I grew up in Cody, Wyoming, perched on the doorstep of Yellowstone, where I did just about anything outside. Those experiences made me a consumer of quality gear my entire life. And Nicole grew up in Salt Lake City at the foot of the Wasatch Range, spending tons of time chasing big adventures, too.
These days we have kids so guiding multi-day river trips isn’t an option anymore. But that doesn’t mean we spend less time outdoors. In fact, we think it’s more important than ever to show our children our amazing world so they will value and protect it when they grow up. That’s why we’re often outside with them … skiing, river running, backpacking, hiking, hunting, and camping (at least 30 days last year with hopes of far more this year).
What we hope to do for our customers is bring to them the same passion we have for enjoying the outdoors …
… regardless of what they’re into or how they experience it. And, naturally, that we get them the right gear at the right price.
In fact, our number one goal is to help our customers have the best outdoor experience they can. That goes for everyone who works at Moab Gear Trader. We pride ourselves on our local knowledge, our understanding of the equipment that gets you to that special place, and getting to know our customers – their likes and dislikes – so we can help them in exactly the right way.
For us, it’s not just about the discount. If we sell a $100 tent, we sell the best $100 tent we can find. It might be last year’s colors but you can bet we’ve spent time to understand whether or not it’s top quality stuff. Same goes for the used equipment we have. We’ll only accept it if it’s clean, gently-used, high-quality gear.
When we say the best equipment, at the best price … for the best adventures, we mean it. And we stand behind it.
